Carole Thorpe of Charlottesville, was announced as the new Chair of the Jefferson Area Tea Party Friday. She succeeds former Chairman Bill Hay, who formed the tea party group in 2009.
"My participation in tea party events during the past twelve months helped me to find my political voice and built the confidence to lead this splendid organization. I look forward to leading area patriots in the fight against the ever increasing threat to our Republic, our liberty, and our security," Thorpe remarked.
Thorpe became active in the Jefferson Area Tea Party after attending last year's Tax Day rally on April 15. Among several events, she attended the 9-12 March on Washington, organized the 5th District Republican Candidates Forum held in January, and recently hosted the Patriot Ladies Tea Party fundraiser, featuring guest speaker Kate Obenshain of the Young America's Foundation.
"The Jefferson Area Tea Party is grateful to Bill Hay for his leadership, energy, and patriotism," Thorpe added. "I am personally indebted to Bill for encouraging my participation since last April and for entrusting me with key projects during the last few months."
Thorpe is a wife and homemaker who recently celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary and is also the proud mother of a 13-year old son with Autism.
