Laurence Verga, a candidate in Tuesday's Republican primary, has issued a statement defending his health.
On his campaign website, Verga acknowledged there have been questions and rumors regarding his health in the past few weeks, but in the post, he said "these rumors are contradicted by the fact that I have been able to run a vigorous, lengthy campaign."
In addition to the message on his website, Verga released a YouTube video, assuring voters that despite a kidney problem, he is healthy.
He said he plans on having a kidney transplant sometime after the election, which would take him off the campaign trail for one week.
Verga faces six other candidates in Tuesday's Republican primary. The winner will face U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello in the general election in November.
