Rep. Tom Perriello made two radio station appearances and then set off on a tour of "Main Street" businesses in Stanardsville as he tries to take the temperature of local voters and residents.
The Democrat from Ivy, coming to the end of his first term, made a guest appearance on Joe Thomas' morning show on WCHV, discussing issues that included bank lending and war funding.
The congressman also went door to door along Main Street in Stanardsville, visiting with business leaders in the small Greene County town. It was the first of several Main Street tours across his district. He's talking to business owners about their concerns and what they would like to see happen in Washington.
"Every day is a day that we're out listening, out working, trying to take those ideas back to Washington," Perriello said.
Perriello said most business owners along the tour are concerned about health care and bank lending.
During his Main Street tour, Perriello will stop in several localities. He said he plans to get feedback from more than 100 business owners.
Perriello is facing a strong re-election challenge from State Sen. Robert Hurt, a Chatham Republican.
