RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A few dozen reproductive rights activists clad in pink T-shirts quietly picketed alongside Democrats in the rain outside the Virginia Republican Convention that nominated anti-abortion Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for governor.
Most held signs Saturday objecting to Cuccinelli's record of promoting restrictions to abortion in Virginia, including his successful effort to force state regulators to reverse their decision to exempt existing abortion clinics from a new law that subjects the clinics to the same building standards as hospitals.
The signs ranged from modest to raunchy. One woman wearing shorts that showed off tattooed legs held a sign that applied a crude term to her genitalia and warned Cuccinelli that he wasn't welcome there.
