Time is running out for voters in Virginia to apply for absentee ballots in this month's primary elections.
Democratic and Republican primary elections will be held Aug. 23 for a host of local and state legislative posts throughout the commonwealth.
Anyone applying for an absentee ballot must get their application to their local election board by 5 p.m. Tuesday. Ballots with an Aug. 16 postmark won't be accepted.
Those who miss the deadline to receive an absentee ballot by mail may still be able to cast an in-person absentee ballot at their county election office up until Aug. 20.
Not all northern Virginia precincts have a contested primary since many candidates are unopposed for their party's nomination.
