Campaign Prepares for Michelle Obama Ticket Distribution

July 17, 2012

Ahead of First Lady Michelle Obama's visit to Charlottesville on Friday, the local campaign headquarters is making sure everybody who wants tickets to the rally knows how to get them.

Dozens of volunteers packed the Obama campaign office on the Downtown Mall Tuesday afternoon, calling local Democrats to inform them how to get tickets.

The First Lady will speak at the Main Street Arena at 1:40 p.m. Friday. You can see the entire event broadcast live on CBS19 and streaming online at newsplex.com.

The campaign office will issue tickets on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The office also does not know how many tickets will be distributed, but a spokesman said the number could be in the thousands.

Many say the first lady's visit has major implications on what this presidential campaign means, especially in Virginia.

"It's just an indication of how important the vote in Virginia is for this election," said Jim Nix, chair of the Charlottesville Democrats. "Virginia is clearly one of the swing states and very high on the list for the president to keep in his column for this election."

Wednesday will likely be the only chance for the public to get tickets to see Mrs. Obama speak Friday. A spokesman recommends showing up early, as the office expects a long line of people Wednesday morning.
