Charlottesville Council Candidate Hosts Afternoon Cookout

June 8, 2013

With just days to go until the Democratic primary, city council candidates continue their campaigning for the two seats up for grabs.

Democratic candidate Wes Bellamy hosted a community cookout in Lee Park today. Incumbent Democratic councilor Kristin Szakos was also there. Szakos is running for re-election, while Bellamy is looking to fill the seat of councilor Dave Norris, who opted not to run.

Bellamy said win or lose, he hopes to inspire people to make their voices heard and move the city forward.

"You also have to keep everything in perspective," he said. "This is one of those things and one of those times where, what's gonna be is gonna be. If it's meant to happen, it's gonna happen. What's most important ... is whether we win, whether we lose or it's a draw, we're still going to work to bring the community together through different events. That's not ever gonna change."

The Democratic primary will be on Tuesday, June 11.
