Voting got underway Tuesday evening in Charlottesville's Democratic Primary. People who cannot make it to the polls on August 20 had a chance for their voice to be heard.
If you couldn't make it out Tuesday night, there's another chance to vote August 18 at the Independence Resource Center on Cherry Avenue.
"There are a number of issues that have really gotten the community excited," said Caucus Chair James Nix. "We have a large number of candidates and those candidates have been working hard trying to build support in the community, and I think we're seeing the results of that work tonight."
In-home voting service is available for registered voters.

The Charlottesville Democratic Committee has announced absentee voting opportunities before its August 20 Unassembled Caucus or Firehouse Primary where voters will nominate three City Council candidates and one Clerk of Circuit Court candidate for the fall general election.
Absentee balloting will be held from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9 and Thursday, August 18 at the Independence Resource Center, 815 Cherry Ave. Registered voters must verify under oath that they can not attend the August 20 unassembled caucus for reasons of religious observation, travel, or work commitments that require them to be at work 8 of 10 hours during the unassembled caucus.
In-Home Voting Service will be available for registered voters who verify that they can not reasonably leave their home because of illness or infirmity. There will be three opportunities for in-home voting: August 9 and August 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and August 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Requests for in-home voting service must be made 5 days in advance (the deadlines are August 4 and August 13) by calling the City Democrats voice mail at 434-978-7040. You will receive a call back. Or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
