Charlottesville City Council candidate Dede Smith said thanks but no thanks after receiving an endorsement from a competitor Thursday morning.
Bob Fenwick, an Independent candidate for City Council, endorsed Smith, a Democrat, for one of three vacant seats up for grabs on Nov. 8, saying the two see eye-to-eye on several key issues.
However, Smith released the following statement after learning about Fenwick's endorsement:
"It is flattering that an opponent in the City Council race would endorse me. [However], I did not endorse it, I did not request it, I did not authorize it, and I am not and will no be endorsing him."
Smith went on to say she is a proud Democrat and voiced her support of ticket-mates and fellow Democrats Satyendra Huja and Kathy Galvin.
