Charlottesville City Council candidate Paul Long has dropped out of the race. The Independent candidate announced his withdrawal Thursday afternoon at City Hall.
On the steps of City Hall, Long will explain his decision and announce his endorsements of fellow Independent candidates Brandon Collins and Andrew Williams.
"There are five independent candidates running. I think there is a good chance that three candidates can win, and I do not want to dilute the vote," he said.
That leaves three Democrats - DeDe Smith, Kathy Galvin and Satyendra Huja - and four Independents - Bob Fenwick, Brandon Collins, Andrew Williams and Scott Bandy - left in the race.
There are three empty seats on City Council. The election will be on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
