It was pork with a side of politics Saturday morning, as 5th District congressional candidate John Douglass made a stop at a Fluvanna County barbecue festival.
Douglass talked with attendees of the BBQ, Bands and Brews festival in Fluvanna. He is incumbent Congressman Robert Hurt's Democratic challenger in the November election.
Douglass says he's been getting support from around the 5th District, the state and the country. Saturday, he continued to push his platform, focusing on jobs, education and women's issues.
"It's going very well," Douglass said. "We're at that stage in the campaign where we're getting our signs out, meeting people throughout the state, doing a lot of moving around."
The 5th District spans the widest area in Virginia, from Fauquier County to Danville. Douglass said he planned to make three campaign stops Saturday, each with 100 miles in between.
