Democrats in Virginia's 5th District have formally named John Douglass as the nominee to challenge Republican congressman Robert Hurt in November's election.
Douglass earned enough delegates at Saturday morning's convention to claim the nomination. The convention took place at Nelson County High School.
A few weeks ago, Douglass' sole competitor for the nomination, Peyton Williams, conceded the race making Douglass the presumptive nominee. The results became official Saturday.
Douglass will challenge Hurt, a one-term Republican congressman, in November's general election.
