State Board of Elections Working to Clear False Information

July 23, 2012

The State Board of Elections (SBE) is working to clear up some misinformation being circulated online.

A mass e-mail is circulating stating that voters who have not voted since the 2008 election need to re-register to be eligible to vote.

This information is false. It is possible for your voter registration to be cancelled if you had moved and did not responded to a mailed questionnaire. There is a way to find out if you are registered.

"The best thing for anybody and everybody to do, I would say who is interested in voting this fall, is to check your registration status and you can do that either online at the Virginia's State Board of Elections website or you can call our office," said Jake Washburne, voter registrar.

The deadline to register to vote for new voters is October 15.

Voters can check their registration status using the SBE website.
