Governor Bob McDonnell says he has completed returning gifts from a major political donor who showered his family with thousands of dollars in gratuities the past four years.
The governor told the Associated Press on Monday that his private attorney had notified him that all the tangible gifts from Jonnie Williams have been returned.
McDonnell has hired private council to represent him in federal and state investigations into his interactions with Williams, who is the CEO of Star Scientific.
Gov. McDonnell has already repaid loans valued at nearly $125,000, and two of his daughters have returned gifts of $10,000 and $15,000 he gave them for their weddings.
The governor did not report the gifts on his annual financial disclosure statements, citing state law that requires disclosure only of gifts directly to officeholders, not members of their families.
