Gov. McDonnell Announces Education Funding Proposals

Governor Bob McDonnell is proposing a funding increase of over $582 million for education over the next two-year budget cycle.

The proposals include increased direct aid to local school divisions, support for school construction loans, funding to expand innovative programs like the Virginia Center for Excellence in Teaching.

Under the proposals, funding would increase by almost $269 million during the 2015 fiscal year, and almost $314 million for the 2016 fiscal year.

Gov. McDonnell also is proposing additional support for math and reading specialists for schools not meeting accreditation requirements.
