Governor Bob McDonnell cast his vote in the Virginia Primary early Tuesday morning. By heading to his downtown Richmond polling place earlier than planned, he was able to avoid protesters who had planned on meeting him at the polls.

The protesters, who assembled outside Main Street Station about an hour after the Governor voted in Tuesday's Republican primary, say they are upset with a bill recently passed in the Virginia General Assembly that would require a woman to undergo an ultrasound prior to getting an abortion.

Governor McDonnell said he would sign the bill into law after state lawmakers made some changes to the original bill, which they did prior to its passage.

When voting, the Governor told members of media outlets that he stands behind GOP candidate, Mitt Romney.

"We are regularly in touch with the Romney campaign, and I believe that he is the right person at the right time. I think today is a good day, he has gone in with a majority of the delegates and he will come out with a larger percentage of the delegates. I expect him to do very in in Idaho, Massachusetts and obviously Virginia," said Governor McDonnell.

Around 7:15 the Associated Press called Mitt Romney as the projected winner of Virginia.

Governor McDonnell also said that he was disappointed with the low voter turnout at the polls.

"I get very disappointed with voter turnouts like this, I get very disappointed that people like my daughter have sacrificed for freedom and yet so many people take their right to vote, their right to assemble in a cavalier way," said Gov. McDonnell.
