Tareq Salahi, a reality-TV star known for crashing a White House state dinner, announced Monday that he will be running for Governor as a "Republican Independently".
He was facing Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for the Republican nomination, but now plans to be on the ballot as an Independent.
"Even Republicans we hear from are weary of the GOP's growing inability to produce a candidate with enough bipartisan appeal to win a general election,” said Salahi. “Pandering to extremist agendas is alienating voters from both parties.”
Salahi has started collecting the 10,000 signatures required to be on Virginia's ballot, and planning a state-wide “Listening Tour”.
A website has been launched for Salahi’s campaign at CrashTheVote.com .
