The clock is ticking down with a week left before voters head to the polls.
Congressman Robert Hurt was in town to campaign for Republican Ken Cuccinelli. He met with voters at the Albemarle GOP headquarters.
Hurt says he believes Cuccinelli can win this election.
"We’ve got eight days to a big election. I think the troops are getting fired up in the last eight days to knock doors, get the work done that needs to be done, to deliver a victory on election day."
Hurt believes Ken Cuccinelli will take Virginia in the direction it needs to go with job creation.
“If he is elected he will continue the policies that have been adopted over the past five, ten years since he has been in the legislature to again make Virginia the best state in the country to do business."
With a little over a week left, Cuccinelli is trailing in the polls. A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday found Democrat McAuliffe with a 46 to 39 percent advantage. Libertarian Robert Sarvis has been garnering roughly 10 percent.
Only 4 percent of likely voters are still undecided.
Fellow Republicans Duane Snow, Cindi Burkett and Rodney Thomas were also campaigning for seats on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to campaign for Democrat Terry McAuliffe on Wednesday.
