Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Tim Kaine's campaign announced Tuesday it has raised $2.25 million since April 5.
The report, which will be fully released on July 15, will show that 4,600 supporters contributed the money. Campaign Press Secretary Brandi Hoffine says the fundraising total proves people are responding to Kaine's message.
"Tim Kaine has laid out an optimistic vision of bringing Virginia answers to Washington to help address serious national problems. We are pleased with how many people are responding to this campaign in its first weeks."
Hoffine says the campaign's primary focus in the coming months will be building grassroots support and making sure voters hear Kaine's plans to create jobs, grow the economy and bring disciplined spending to Washington.
Kaine's main Republican opponents, former Governor George Allen, Tea Party activist Jamie Radtke and Horizon Television founder Tim Donner, have not released fundraising totals.
