Democrat Tim Kaine may be stepping forward to run for Jim Webb's seat in the United States Senate. Webb announced on Wednesday, Feb. 9 that he will retire at the end of his current term.
The former Virginia Governor and current Democratic Party Chairman told USA Today he is now considering running for the seat in 2012. Although, he will talk to President Barack Obama before making a final decision.
In an interview with The Virginia Pilot, Jim Webb said he wants Kaine to run. Kaine added he is flattered by interest in his candidacy.
Former Governor George Allen, who lost the seat to Webb in 2006, and Virginia Tea Party leader Jamie Radtke have already announced they will seek the GOP nomination.
