Last 340 Hours of President Nixon's Recording Released

August 21, 2013

Wednesday, Nixon's Presidential Library released the last 340 hours of his personal recordings while in office.

The tapes start in April 1973 and end in July of 1973. This is the last of five chunks that have been released by the library.

The tapes include Nixon's conversations about Watergate and Vietnam. They shed more like on Nixon's intentions during some important times in American History.

Marc Selverstone, Chair of the Presidential Recordings at the UVa. Miller Center, said, "This is the last batch of tapes we are likely to have because once it was disclosed that Nixon had a taping system, we presume that no subsequent presidents taped their conversations given what it has done to the Nixon presidency."

The raw recordings will be on the UVa. Miller Center website for public access as soon as they get copies from the library.
