Local Candidates Challenged to Sign Petition

October 24, 2011

Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population (ASAP) issued challenges Monday to the 12 candidates vying for seats on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and Charlottesville City Council.

The challenge urges them to sign ASAP's Sustainability Petition.

ASAP sent e-mail messages to the five Board of Supervisor candidates (Ken Boyd, Chris Dumler, Ann Mallek, Cynthia Neff and Jim Norwood) and the seven City Council candidates (Scott Bandy, Brandon Collins, Bob Fenwick, Kathy Galvin, Satyenda Huja, Dede Smith and Andrew Williams) asking them to keep sustainability a priority in the community's ongoing comprehensive planning project.

That project, called Many Plans – One Community, is under the leadership of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) and will lead to plan updates for the county, the city, the university and the local MPO.

ASAP has asked the candidates to respond by Oct. 31.
