Marine Veteran Enters Virginia Senate Race

August 10, 2011

Courtney Lynch announced Wednesday that she is a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Jim Webb in January 2013. Lynch had previously announced in April that she was contemplating a run.

“Citizens of our great state and nation are frustrated with the direction the country is heading in. More of the same is not an option for voters. Voters are ready for leaders to step up and lead. People want responsible leaders to engage. Being a political insider is not high on the list of requirements to serve this nation. In fact, fresh faces with valuable ideas are in demand,” Lynch said.

Lynch is running to add value to voters. “I’m a business person. Competition in business provides better opportunity for consumers. Competition in elections engages more people in the process. The more who take action, the more quickly we will bring about progress,” Lynch adds.

Lynch plans to run a campaign focused on practical solutions to the complex problems facing Virginia and the nation. She’ll address jobs creation, fiscal opportunity and responsibility, America’s need to lead globally and how our country can best meet the aspirations of its people.

Lynch’s launch coincides with the release of her action plan designed to address these most pressing challenges to securing the future and restoring the American Dream. “It is now time for us to do what Americans do best- respond to the challenges currently threatening our peace and prosperity. I bring diversity of perspective and a renewed focus on solutions to the race. It’s time for true leadership, not petty partisan politics,” says Lynch.

“Right now most media attention regarding the 2012 Senate race is focused on the frenzy of two political heavyweights slugging it out in the battleground state of Virginia. The race is ripe for a Democratic challenger with proven leadership experience to earn the respect of voters who want a new direction and a new kind of leader,” states Lynch.

Lynch is a founding partner of the consulting firm Lead Star and co-author of the leadership book, Leading from the Front. She honorably served as an officer in the Marine Corps and holds a law degree from William & Mary Law School. She is married to Patrick Lynch and is the mother of three children.
