Senator Mark Warner is getting strong approval from Virginia voters, and his would-be opponent for the next senate race isn't widely known.

A new poll out from the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University shows Sen. Warner holds a 63 percent job approval rating in the Commonwealth, but only half of those polled said they would reelect him today.

Thirty percent of people said they would vote for former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie today. But he only received a 10 percent approval rating.

Meanwhile, the poll also shows former Governor Bob McDonnell left office with a 57 percent approval rating, but the recent corruption charges against him and his wife could hurt his final standing.

The poll surveyed 1,023 registered Virginia voters, from Jan. 15-22. The total margin of error is +/- 3.1 percent.
