President Barack Obama's re-election campaign is gearing up for Virginia's 2012 presidential primary.
Media outlets report that Organizing for America-Virginia plans to deliver petitions to the State Board of Elections on Friday containing the signatures of about 15,000 voters. Virginia law requires candidates to submit 10,000 voter signatures to qualify for inclusion on the ballot.
The re-election campaign also plans to open offices in Fairfax and Newport News on Saturday.
In 2008, Obama became the first Democrat to carry Virginia in a presidential race in 44 years.
