Governor Terry McAuliffe is one of several democratic governors from around the country invited to the White House on Friday.
President Obama sat down with more than a dozen governors, including the chair of the Democratic Governors Association, and made a pitch for raising the federal minimum wage.
The president praised the governors for working to raise the minimum wage in their own states, and said it is both good policy, and good politics.
"People instinctually understand that what this country should be about is that by working hard and taking responsibility, you can get ahead, you can look out for your family,” said Pres. Obama. “And raising the minimum wage will help up to 16 million Americans."
President Obama wants to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour.
