Congressman Robert Hurt, R-5th District, echoed the frustration shared by many supporters of the bill passed by the House Friday night to help fix the nation's debt crisis.

Hurt told CBS19 the work House Republicans put into the bill meant nothing to the Democrat-controlled Senate, which tabled the bill just two hours after the House passed it.

"Time is running out," Hurt said. "Our economy is fragile. Our recovery is fragile. We can't afford for any more dilly-dallying down the hall in the United States Senate."

Many reports said phones continued to ring off the hook Friday at many congressional offices from constituents pushing for action. Hurt joined fellow Republican Rep. Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, in the yes vote for the House bill.

Even with House approval, Hurt said the bill was far from perfect. Ideally, he said, he'd like to see more spending cuts and a quicker path to financial stability for the nation.

Hurt said he's ready to see the Senate take some sort of action.

"There's been a lot of talks, a lot of meetings, a lot of gangs getting together, but I can tell you this. They haven't put anything on the floor that addresses the problems we face in this country," Hurt said. "Nothing."

Virginia Democratic Sens. Mark Warner and Jim Webb both voted to table the House bill.
