One of five Republican candidates for Virginia's open U.S. Senate seat is dropping out of the contest.
Northern Virginia television production company owner Tim Donner dropped out of the race on Wednesday. Donner says most Republicans and the state party appear to support frontrunner George Allen, a former U.S. senator and governor. Donner vowed to not go away.
In addition to Allen, three other GOP candidates remain: tea party activist Jamie Radtke, Hampton Roads minister E.W. Jackson Sr. and Virginia Beach attorney David McCormick.
Three Democrats — former Gov. Tim Kaine, Fairfax consultant Courtney Lynch and Reston businessman Julien Modica — are competing for their party's nomination.
Both parties will pick a nominee in June 12 primaries.
