Candidate Wants Children to Participate in After-School Activities

October 17, 2011

Charlottesville School Board candidate Amy Laufer addressed a crowd at McGuffy Park Monday. She talked about getting more students involved in after-school activities.

Laufer said when children are involved in after-school activities, they are less likely to drop out of school and get into trouble.

"I think we really need to help our at risk youth get more plugged into the community," she explained. "Most of these students are the ones that stay in our community and we need to make sure they have good connections within the community and skills to be productive citizens."

Laufer is one of seven candidates vying for four vacant seats on the school board.
