State Senator Creigh Deeds and Delegate David Toscano were in Charlottesville Wednesday to talk budget negotiations and other political issues.
The two politicians talked to a group at the Senior Center. One of the biggest topics in today’s discussion included Medicaid expansion for the uninsured in Virginia.
A debate over that proposed expansion has brought the General Assembly to the brink of budget failure for the Commonwealth.
Del. Toscano says it is a major issue that needs to be addressed.
"Right now we are in a stalemate and that stalemate has to do with whether we are going to take money that we've been sending to Washington and bring back here. We can serve 400,000 Virginians who don’t have insurance by closing the coverage gap. I think that's what the debate is all about right now."
Other topics of discussion included mental health and reforms for the Standards of Learning tests.
