Senator Tim Kaine says he fully supports the immigration plan being pushed by the bipartisan group of lawmakers known as the Gang of Eight.
That plan would give a path to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants.
Those with felony convictions or other criminal records would be excluded.
Kaine says the United States gets some of its most talented workers through immigration, and the new bill will help us keep many of those workers.
"Generally, what Virginians are telling me is let's do a comprehensive reform and make sure we put, as our first priority making sure we stay the most talented place on Earth."
Some conservatives say the bill will reward illegal immigrants for breaking the law.
