RICHMOND, Virginia (AP)— The General Assembly has rejected a proposal to study the need for Virginia to adopt its own alternative currency to the U.S. dollar should the federal reserve system collapse.

The Senate killed Del. Bob Marshall's resolution Tuesday. This marks the third consecutive year the legislature has rejected the Prince William County Republican's proposal.

Marshall's resolution warned of the threat of sophisticated, foreign cyber-attacks on U.S. banks with the aim of undermining consumer confidence and disrupting the national economy. It called for a 10-member panel to study creating metallic-based Virginia currency and report its findings before the 2014 General Assembly.
