Republican U.S. Senate candidate George Allen says he collected a little more than $1 million in the final three months of last year and started 2012 with about $2 million on hand.
That would bring total fundraising for Allen's quest to win back the Senate seat he lost to Democrat Jim Webb in 2006 to about $4.5 million since he started his campaign a year ago.
Allen faces three other Republicans — Jamie Radtke, David McCormick and E.W. Jackson — in the June Senate primary. A fourth, Tim Donner, withdrew.
Democratic frontrunner Tim Kaine had not announced his fourth-quarter totals by noon Tuesday. Kaine faces primary opponents Courtney Lynch and Julien Modica.
Through September, Kaine and Allen had raised about $3.5 million apiece, though Allen launched his campaign three months earlier.
