A Democratic lawmaker is urging Governor Bob McDonnell to "come clean" about gifts from a political donor or resign.

The Associated Press reports that Senator Chap Petersen says in a letter to McDonnell that recent published reports suggest that Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams plied the McDonnell family with gifts and, in return, was allowed to use the governor's office to gain credibility for his dietary supplements company.

McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin called Petersen's letter "blatantly political."

The gifts first came to light during an investigation into alleged improprieties in the Executive Mansion's kitchen. Former mansion chef Todd Schenider, who is charged with embezzlement, reported that Williams paid $15,000 for catering at the wedding of McDonnell's daughter.

News reports have listed other gifts from Williams, including a $6,500 Rolex, that were not reported on McDonnell's statement of economic interests.
