Senators Take Part in Va. Political History Project at UVa.

June 20, 2014

The University of Virginia Center for Politics is holding its annual Virginia Political History Project today. The event is bringing together current Senator Mark Warner (D) and former Senator John Warner (R).

The two senators come from two different political parties, and they were once rivals, which makes this evening's topic of partisanship all the more insightful.

UVa. Professor Larry Sabato will moderate the discussion between the two men.

John Warner was a five-term senator that served as the Secretary of the Navy. He also served as the chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, and says he is watching the current situation in Iraq closely.

"I think President Obama made the correct decisions," said the former senator. "It was time for the United States to pull out and return. We had achieved our mission of training those soldiers and giving that measure of democracy."

John Warner made news recently when he endorsed Mark Warner in his race against Republican candidate Ed Gillespie.

The Center for Politics will is offering live streaming coverage of the event at the link on the side of the page.
