State Senator Discusses Senior Care in Charlottesville

State Senator Edd Houck (D-17th) visited the Jefferson Area Board for Aging in Charlottesville on Tuesday to discuss his support for senior care initiatives and respond to critics who say he threatens “biblical values.”
Houck, who said even more health care support is needed, told attendees he will continue to fight budget cuts that threaten care for seniors. The Democrat, who is running for re-election in November, also took time to respond to claims from the “No Excuses” Political Action Committee, which has stated his beliefs and voting record go against The Bible.
“The Holy Scriptures are something that each person finds their own way of understanding and believing in, but to turn that into a political weapon using large amounts of Republican money is repulsive. I hope the voters will be repulsed too,” he said.
Houck also complimented JABA for its work in the Charlottesville area. He believes more initiatives and more state funding is needed, pointing to recent data that shows by 2025 there will be a 109 percent increase in the number of people over the age of 65 in Charlottesville alone.
