There are going to be some fresh faces on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. With most of the pro-bypass Republicans leaving the board, what will this mean for the western bypass?
While it’s still early, we do know that four new politicians with some different ideas and agendas will be making decisions for the county. The six-member board will only have two familiar faces with Democrat Ann Mallek and Republican Ken Boyd.
Some say that the race came down to the bypass issue, which bypass opponents won out over the candidates in favor.
Supervisors Chair Ann Mallek is against, and Supervisor Ken Boyd is for it.
Boyd says he hopes that the board will consider the ramifications of making changes.
“I think it is possible that there might be some people that want to push to drop the bypass but I think we need check with the state and find out what the ramifications of that are because my opinion of it is we will have to pay back a lot of money that’s already been spent on the bypass.”
Lou Hatter of VDOT says at this point, nothing has changed.
