The man best-known for crashing a party at the White House has announced he is running for Virginia governor.
Tareq Salahi gained fame in 2009 when he and his then-wife showed up at a White House state dinner. They later starred in a reality TV show.
But Salahi says he is much more serious in real life. He served under three different governors crafting legislation. He says he wants to "help the Commonwealth move forward."
Salahi is running against Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for the Republican nomination. He says Cuccinelli is too conservative.
"He's an extremist," said Salahi. "He has views that are extremely challenging. I'm a centrist. I'm the normal, middle man."
Salahi has begun traveling around Virginia to campaign. He says he wants to focus on improving Virginia's rail lines to get traffic off the roads.
Salahi says if he doesn't win the Republican nomination, he will run as an independent.
"No matter what, I'm going to be on the ballot," Salahi said.
