The Jefferson Area Tea Party held a rally Thursday morning at Congressman Robert Hurt's Charlottesville district office on Berkmar Circle. The rally's theme was "We Have Your Back (IF you drastically cut spending and de-fund ObamaCare)."

Dozens attended the rally to express their desire for Hurt to return to Washington to advocate for deep spending cuts. The group is urging the Fifth District Congressman to stick to his beliefs and not be easily swayed.

"Not only are we expecting him to serve in the way that he has said, but when he acts boldly and votes what may not be particularly the favored thing among the liberal majority here in Charlottesville we have his back and we will stand up for him," said JATPA Chairwoman Carole Thorpe.

Thorpe says the group commends Congressman Hurt for honoring his pledge to vote for the repeal of ObamaCare. However, she says he voted last week to pass a Continuing Resolution to prevent a government shutdown that yielded $105 billion of appropriations for the bureaucracy and infrastructure of government-run health care.

JATP is calling for an end to Continuing Resolutions that delay passage of a new national budget, and zero-tolerance for funding of ObamaCare.

Hurt was not asked to attend the rally and did not have a representative present.
