Va. Congressman Moran Retiring

Jan. 15, 2014

Veteran Democratic Representative Jim Moran is retiring from Congress.

The 68-year-old former mayor of Alexandria was first elected in 1990. Moran has been a strong supporter of federal civilian employees who have a heavy presence in his district.

Moran is the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Interior Subcommittee and a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.

He says in a news release, "it's time to close this chapter of my life and move on to the next challenge."

This is the second long serving Virginia congressman to announce his retirement before November's elections. Republican Frank Wolf announced his retirement after 17 terms in office.
