The next Virginia governor may get the chance to serve a second term.
The Senate passed a constitutional amendment Monday that allows governors to run for re-election.
Currently, the governor of Virginia can only serve one term.
The bill has a long road ahead of it before it can get passed, though.
It needs to pass both Houses of the General Assembly for two consecutive years, and then get ratified by Virginia voters.
Supporters say it will allow successful governors to continue to help the Commonwealth.
Critics argue Virginia is efficient because governors have to accomplish their goals in one term.
