Democratic Senator Mark Warner has announced his support for gay marriage.
He made the announcement on Facebook on Monday, as the United States Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments on two cases involving gay marriage this week.
Warner had previously supported civil unions.
He was also the first governor of Virginia to ban discrimination in hiring and workplace protection for homosexual employees.
Warner says, he supports marriage equality because it's "fair and right thing to do."
