Central Virginians have been seeing a lot of political ads from Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe, often with the candidates attacking one another.
On Friday, the Cuccinelli campaign decided to try a different route, and released a positive advertisement centered on college football.
"Let’s go Hokies! And while I’m a Wahoo, tonight I stand with millions of Virginians in rooting you on," says Cuccinelli in the ad. "Now enjoy the game. Go Hokies! "
One may ask where is the love for the Cavaliers? Cuccinelli is a graduate of the University of Virginia, after all.
UVa and Tech have been squared-off in a competitive rivalry since the 1800s. To not cheer on his own school could be gauged as a misstep by the Republican candidate.
However, one could argue that he is using football as a positive bipartisan metaphor: Cavaliers, Hokies, they’re all Virginians.
On the night of Charlottesville’s Paint the Town Orange rallying for UVa, it might be a good idea for Cuccinelli’s campaign to rush out an ad for the Wahoos.
