Albemarle Co. Schools Brace for Sequestration Cuts

Officials at Albemarle County Public Schools know how the sequestration cuts, in effect since midnight Saturday, will affect the system, but they don't know when.
Spending cuts would affect the nutrition budget, meaning parents would have to spend 50 cents more on lunch at school.
The other cuts would be in special education program funding.
The Albemarle County School Board is already facing a $1 million shortfall, and now it has to find the money to keep the government-mandated services for special education students.
School board member Ned Gallaway said he believes the board and county officials can work together and possibly use money from the rainy day fund to help once sequestration cuts do happen.
