Albemarle County Public Schools are looking for parents' and students' input when it comes to a new principal for Western Albemarle High School.
A meeting scheduled for Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria seeks input from students, parents, teachers and others about what qualities make a strong candidate for school's new principal.
School officials are encouraging everyone -- not just high school students and parents -- to take part, as the principal will likely interact with many of the younger grades from the feeder schools.
"What people bring with them is their own view of what the principal does and how that principal can make an impact on that specific site," said Matt Haas, an assistant superintendent in the school system.
After 42 years as an educator, principal Dave Francis announced his retirement in February after five years at WAHS.
"Western Albemarle High School has a tradition of educational leadership, really strong leadership," Haas said. "I think over his tenure at the school, Dave Francis has done a wonderful job of upholding that tradition."
For those who can't make it to the meeting or would like to give more input, the school system has set up an online survey. The survey will close Friday.
The goal for the school system is to make a recommendation for a new principal to the school board by April 11.
