Engineering Fair at Cale Elementary

May 29, 2014

Cale Elementary School students will have their annual engineering fair tonight.

Students as young as kindergarten have been working to "engineer" the fastest LEGO cars. They also created and designed clothes that were made out of only recycled or discarded material. Professors with the University of Virginia also stepped in this year to help out with the students projects.

"When they get to experience that they've built the cars on their own, they can test the cars, they've been able to see the impact of different types of weight, different types of design, different types of force, on how far the car travels, that is a tremendous learning moment," says Susan Donohue, UVa. engineering lecturer.

The event is being held Thursday, May 29, and usually attracts almost 1,000 people.
