Va. Residents Scammed by Fake Dominion Power Workers

August 13, 2010

Waynesboro police say a man and a woman, posing as Dominion Power workers have been trying to steal from people in the city this week.

The cases are very similar to cases reported in Augusta County.

Police say a well-dressed man and woman approached two houses on Rosser Avenue Wednesday, talking about tree trimming operations in the area. While the woman spoke to the resident, her partner searched the homes and took what he could find.

Both victims are elderly, and one of them had a hundred dollars stolen.

"It hasn't hit Waynesboro in two or three years, but we have seen this type of crime before," Said Waynesboro Police Sargent Kelly Walker. "They take advantage of people who are trusting."

Sgt. Walker warns residents to be careful when dealing with unwelcome visitors. "Anytime they are approached at their home, they should do business with people they don't know outside their home, and be very wary."
