Fairfax County police say a nine-year-old girl riding a bicycle has died after being hit by a car. It happened Monday about 4:30 p.m. in Franconia.
Police say three girls were riding their bicycles and tried to cross the road. The first two girls made it; the third girl, Rebecca Johns of Alexandria, was hit by a car. She was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she died.
The driver, an 80-year-old man, remained at the scene.
Police say no charges have been filed, and neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash, which is under investigation.
