Hot, hazy weather has prompted the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to issue an air quality alert for the Richmond and Hampton Roads area.
The National Weather Service predicts temperatures in the region will hit the upper 90s on Wednesday.
Because conditions are right for unhealthy air quality, the state has issued a code orange alert for the region.
Persons with respiratory problems, heart ailments, older residents and children are urged to limit the amount of time they spend outdoors, or engaged in heavy exertion.
The alert is in effect until midnight.
