Va. Man Dies After Running Half-Marathon

September 7, 2010

A Virginia Beach Police officer says a Virginia man has died after finishing a half-marathon.

Officer Adam Bernstein told the "Virginian-Pilot" that the 27-year-old runner didn't feel well, but completed the race Sunday, then went to an onsite medical tent. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Bernstein says the man was from Virginia.

Last year, 23-year-old Erik Wellumson of Chesapeake died after collapsing during the same race. This year it is called the Dodge RockNRoll Virginia Beach Half Marathon.
